Computerway Adds To Production and Inventory Control System Capabilities

HIGH POINT, N.C. (May 19, 2005) — The latest version of the Computerway Production and Inventory Control system (R5) reflects numerous improvements making the system more efficient.

Computerway Production and Inventory Control applies the latest in bar-coding, labeling, scanning and computer technology to food operations including inventory control, production, shipping and plant-level recall.

The updates in the R5 version of the system include:

  • enhanced traceability
  • multi-language capabilities
  • easier/more comprehensive yield reporting
  • customer codes – allows for the allocation of production and inventory to customers
  • tighter integration with the Computerway Process Management module
  • load management capabilities, providing truck and load diagrams
  • integrated pick and load functions

Added features to Computerway’s traceability and recall allow product to be tracked across all departments and systems within the plant environment. Utilizing R5’s enhanced product tracking, the scope of any potential recall is narrowed.  Instances when recalls would normally encompass a complete days worth of processes and production can now be tied to specific production lines, batches or times and periods of the day.  Integration and synchronization of the R5 version along with all other Computerway Food System’s (CFS) applications allow for the seamless tracing of product through re-work processes, batch manufacturing operations and in-plan transfers.

Now supporting multiple languages, the R5 version of the Production and Inventory Control System’s language configuration is based on user log-in which can be customized for every user of the system. Multiple languages are supported in scanning functions, PC client-application menus and system reports.

The R5 version also allows product to be produced for a specific customer at a scale labeling station or allocated as it is being scanned into inventory. Once product is allocated to a customer, it can only be shipped against an order for the specified customer.

With this latest version, inventory reports now are based on inventory allocation allowing a company’s sales force to quickly see how much inventory has been produced and is available, or needed, to meet customer orders.
New load functionality in R5 allows pallets to be scanned as loaded onto the truck, recording truck information and pallet positioning. Using this information, a diagram can be generated illustrating the position of each pallet that has been loaded onto the truck.
